After several years of practice and vocal training, Evie was ready to start singing in public, rather than on the karaoke machine at home. Mainly she was just performing sing-a-grams for people which wasn't exactly her dream, but she knew she had to start somewhere.
Sometimes she embarrassed herself by messing up words or falling on the floor, but she kept at it. No star got where they were without a few embarrassing moments along the way.
And on top of performing her sing-a-grams and trying to make it as a singer Evie was trying to learn piano and guitar.
She did occasionally take over the stage at the festival grounds with her best friend Julianne to sing a duet, but they could only do so when there weren't any other performances going on and usually nobody else was there.
Of course, she still had to focus on school as well. Her parents were supportive of her dream, but she had to promise them that her school work wouldn't suffer. Every day after school she had to go home and do her homework before heading out to perform her sing-a-grams for the day. It was overwhelming at times, but she still excelled at everything.
As her sing-a-grams became more popular Evie's confidence grew and she started heading out to the park when it was busy to perform for tips. She wasn't earning much, but she was still doing okay.

She even gained enough confidence to perform at a talent festival.
She could tell by the crowd reaction as she performed that it wasn't going very well, but she kept going and tried to turn the performance around. By the end, a few people were singing and dancing along and having a great time.
She still didn't win the festival, but she was still proud of herself for doing as well as she had. She graciously applauded and cheered for the winner. Julianne, who'd shown up to watch Evie, screamed about what an outrage it was—clearly, Evie deserved to win. Evie may not have been bothered by losing but it was always nice to have such a supportive friend.
She did win the next talent fest a few weeks later.
And she scored her first real performance, at the coffeehouse, after a terrifying audition.
She would perform on Christmas effectively ruining her family's Christmas plans, but she was excited to be given the honour and knew her family would be excited and proud as well.
Some days she just couldn't believe how fast things were happening and how well she was doing, it almost seemed too good to be true. Her parents just tried to convince her that it was just all her hard work—and impressive talent—paying off. She hoped they were right.
