Aside from her weekly gig at the Karaoke bar, Evie hadn’t performed anywhere in a few months. She’d been working diligently on her album, and between that and school, she just didn’t have time for lots of performances as well. But, her album was finally out and it was summer break so she was back to auditioning for gigs. When she wasn’t busy trying to sell her album around town, of course.
She finally scored a gig at the club that had turned her down before. Her album and increasing popularity around town must have helped, it made sense that they would, it just seemed surprising that it had been enough already.
It would be her biggest gig yet, just because of the venue she was performing at. When performance day rolled and Evie was getting ready to perform she realized it was her biggest audience yet. She figured that made sense too, since the venue was more popular, but they all seemed excited for her to take the stage. They weren't there for the venue, they were there for her. She wished her family could be there to see it but they were all busy, she couldn't wait to tell them anyway. But first she had to get through the performance, and like normal she was suffering from stage fright.
Still as the performance wrapped up and feedback started coming in it was apparent that it was Evie's best show yet. Some might consider it a legendary performance for an artist who was still so young and new to the business, perhaps for somebody who wasn't, even.
Such a successful gig, at a venue of that size and caliber, had paid quite well. With those earnings and the ones from her weekly gigs at the karaoke bar and her album sales, Evie bought herself a car. It wasn't brand new, but a used Ford Fusion that was almost as good as new. Her parents, as they had promised all the kids, had paid for half as well.
Her dad was the lucky one who got to teach her how to drive. He'd recently changed careers to return to professional sports. He'd had a lot of problems at the station with his boss and it was always sports that he'd loved so he just went back; he'd left the career before because it was just a bad time for the family to be bothered by crazed fans and media. Since his new career was less demanding than his old one and his wife's he had the most spare time. It also meant Evie could take gigs that went past curfew since her dad would be there and wouldn't get called away in the middle.
Though her father tried to be patient and calm with her, Evie could tell he was terrified letting her drive. Despite the fact that he seemed to think she was going to kill them, she'd done very well, and quickly earned her license.
The ability to drive would open up a lot of possibilities for her and getting to gigs. The Hoi Polloi Event Center had just opened up and she wanted to audition for a gig there, but it was all the way across town and it was just too difficult to get to if she didn't drive. So that was her first destination after receiving her license. To her surprise, she got the gig. She'd expected to be rejected since it was such a major venue, but it seemed she was gaining a lot of attention from her performance at the club.
